Creatives: Let’s Kill the Comparison Game on Social Media

June 17, 2023

I'm Julia!

I'm here to share my skills and knowledge within food, photography, design, freelance business and beyond.

hello,

In a world of saturated social media, it can be difficult to stand out from the crowd, much less stand in the crowd itself. Doom scrolling through social media feels inevitable, whether you’re just a consumer or looking to create your own content. You can easily get caught up in a comparison mindset. In those moments especially, it’s time to kill the comparison game and remember that no one is you. That really is your superpower.

Apples to Oranges

It’s easy to feel like you need to conform to what is popular or trendy. Whether that’s in order to gain followers or engagement or to like what everyone else is liking. But the truth is, authenticity is the true key to success.

Live outside the box

Instead of trying to fit into a box, embrace your unique qualities and let them shine through in your content. Whether it’s your quirky humor, your passion for a certain topic, or your creative talents, these are the things that make you stand out from the rest. Does that horrifying tale from childhood summer camp now relate to your business? Tell that story!

When you take up space and showcase your individuality, you attract a dedicated audience that appreciates you for who you are. So don’t be afraid to be yourself and take up space. 10 people could be doing the same job, and come away with 10 very different experiences. Your perspective matters. Each of us comprehends information very differently. The way you teach someone could click for that person. While another person could teach the same lesson, with the same background, and that student can’t seem to grasp the concept.

Remember, there is no one else who has that secret sauce or unique perspective quite like you— and that is your greatest asset. The world deserves to hear what you have to say. Take up space and share it.

I'm Julia, your new photo savvy friend.

Originally from upstate New York, I grew up in a town that not-so-famously has more cows than people. My parents owned a flower shop until I was in high school. At 18-months-old, I was standing on the counter asking customers, "How can I help you?". You can say without a doubt, that design and customer service are entwined in the very fiber of my being.
